Rules

 

I. Competition Overview

 

  1. Synopsis

Space Tech Expo USA, in partnership with World Innovation Network (WIN) proudly presents Space Tank: Igniting Revolution in Space. This exciting pitch competition spotlights the most innovative and diverse space sector start-ups on the planet. Five companies will be selected to take center stage at Space Tech Expo USA, competing to revolutionize the future of the space industry, on June 3, 2025, in Long Beach, California.   1. Process

The Space Tank competition requires companies to submit proposals that showcase how they are advancing the development and future of the industry. Five companies will be chosen, and will move on to the live event. Submit your pitch by February 28, 2025.

  1. Location

The pitching competition is part of the Industry Stage programming at Space Tech Expo USA 2025. This event will be taking place at the Long Beach Convention Centre in Long Beach, California, on June 3, 2025. 

 

4. Interpretation

Space Tech Expo USA reserves the right to interpret these terms and conditions in a manner that is consistent with their spirit and intent.

 

II. Application Process

 

1. Diversity

To best capture the finest in space start-ups, Space Tech Expo USA specifically seeks to include a wide range of solutions from a wide range of start-ups.  Therefore, submissions from diverse groups of founders are specifically encouraged.  This includes communities that may be traditionally under-represented.

 

2. Application

To enter the competition, participants must electronically submit the application via Survey Monkey. By clicking on the link, submitters will be able to view the various questions asked. 

 

3. Categories

Applications are encouraged to provide solutions to specific space and space-related problems and challenges.  This could include a problem or challenge within any of the space sector categories and sub-categories listed below. Solutions can further address additional categories and sub-categories not specifically listed.

4. Rules Acceptance

The Application will incorporate by reference these Rules and is deemed to have been read, understood, and agreed to, without restriction or reservation, by each individual taking part in the participating organization’s submission and its potential subsequent competition presentation at Space Tech Expo USA. 

 

5. Language

Submissions, including all materials, must be in English, unless otherwise specified. 

 

6. Deadline

The deadline is February 28, 2025, at 11:59pm Pacific Time.   

 

7. Delays

Late entries will not be accepted.  Space Tech Expo USA is not responsible for applications that are lost, damaged, or delayed due to computer error(s) in transit. 

 

III. Participant Eligibility

 

1. Requirements

All participants and submissions must meet the requirements set forth below in order to participate in the competition. 

  • Adult participants 
  • Legally registered entity 
  • Not publicly traded 
  • No exit/liquidity event 
  • Based in and owned, controlled, or influenced by citizens of the U.S., the Five Eyes, NATO, or other Allied nations. 
  • No connection whatsoever by ownership, investment, supply chain, or influence of any kind to China, Russia, or any prohibited country as listed by the Department of Treasury’s Office of Foreign Asset Control.

 

IV. Selection Parameters

 

1. Criteria

Applications will be evaluated for selection to present at Space Tech Expo USA based in whole or in part on the following criteria:

  • Innovation
  • Impact
  • Go-to-Market Plan
  • Time-to-Market
  • Viability
  • Feasibility
  • Sustainability
  • Scalability
  • Commercialization
  • Team

 

2. Verification

All information submitted on applications must be true, accurate and complete. Space Tech Expo USA reserves the right to verify any information contained in applications, including eligibility requirements.

3. Disqualification

Space Tech Expo USA at its sole discretion reserves the right at any time to disqualify any participants who are found to have misrepresented their data, submitted false information, or committed plagiarism, therefore forfeiting any rights under this competition.

4. Rejection

Space Tech Expo USA reserves the right to reject any submission which relates to a product that is or would be unlawful or otherwise reflects poorly on the reputation of Space Tech Expo USA or the competition, as determined in Space Tech Expo USA’s sole discretion.

5. Original Work

All pitch decks, videos, financial projections, and other submission materials must be authored or created by the participant.

6. Copyrights and Permissions

Any use of third party copyrighted materials, including images and video, may only be used with the expressed consent of the copyright holder, and participants must be prepared to submit evidence of such permission if requested by Space Tech Expo USA at any time.

7. Export Control Compliance

Participants are solely responsible for complying with all applicable export control laws and regulations in their respective countries related to their submissions. This includes obtaining any necessary licenses or authorizations for export of technical data, services, technologies, etc. Space Tech Expo USA will not be held liable for a participant's failure to comply with such export control requirements.

8. License for Materials

Participants have proprietary rights to their respective submissions, provided that each participant hereby agrees to Space Tech Expo USA making such number of copies of the pitch deck, video, financial projections, and other materials as required for the purposes of this competition and using such materials in the manner Space Tech Expo deems necessary for the purposes of the competition. Space Tech Expo USA has the non-exclusive global rights in all languages, and in all media, to use or to publish all competition materials, or any portion thereof, in any medium for purposes associated with this competition or future competitions of this nature.

9. Media and Publicity

Participants must be available and consent to participate in Space Tech Expo USA’s media outreach for this competition.  This may include participating in interviews, photography, and videography, as well as the publication and/or broadcast of the same.

10. Intellectual Property

Applicants may not use the logo or trademark or any other intellectual property of Space Tech Expo USA without prior consent in each case and then only in accordance with the directions and standards notified by Space Tech Expo USA.

11. Non-Solicitation

Participants agree not to solicit, recruit, or hire any employee, contractor, or other personnel of Space Tech Expo USA during the competition and for a period of three (3) years following the competition event date. This prohibition includes indirectly soliciting or hiring personnel through third parties or contracting agencies

12. Disclosure

Due to the nature of the competition, Space Tech Expo USA will not ask judges, reviewers, staff, or the audience to agree to or sign non-disclosure statements for any participant.  Neither Space Tech Expo USA nor any of its selection committee members engaged in the competition, will have any responsibility of any nature or kind, to any participant for misappropriation or misuse of information within materials submitted or presented. Each participant agrees to permit Space Tech Expo USA to disclose pitch decks, videos, logos, and other material submitted, unless explicitly marked as confidential.

13. Confidentiality

Participants may choose to, at their discretion, designate certain sensitive information submitted as confidential. Space Tech Expo USA agrees not to publish or otherwise disclose this to outside parties without consent, provided it is clearly marked confidential.

14. No Endorsement or Guarantee

Participation in the competition does not constitute an endorsement or determination of future success by Space Tech Expo USA, nor a guarantee of future support by Space Tech Expo USA.

 

V. Finalist Procedures

 

1. Notification of Finalists

Only successful participants will be notified of their eligibility to move on to the competition event and final pitch to the judges.

 

2. Return of Submission

Space Tech Expo USA has no obligation to return submissions.

 

3. Participation

Participant(s) from each submission selected to proceed to the Space Tech Expo USA competition event must participate on the event date specified. Alternate dates will not be provided.

 

4. Preparatory Call Attendance

There will be a number of preparatory calls prior to the competition event.  Failure to attend these calls will result in disqualification of the submission, unless a participant cannot attend due to health or other significant personal hardship situation precluding attendance.

 

5. Limitation of Liability

Space Tech Expo USA, as well as its judges, volunteers, and staff, are not responsible for typographical, technical, or other errors in the offer or administration of this competition, including but not limited to errors in advertising, rules, computer failure, selection, and announcement of winners.

 

6. Release of Claims

By entering this competition, each participant will be deemed to have waived any right of recourse against Space Tech Expo USA, its judges, volunteers, and staff, for any claims which may arise out of the participant’s involvement in this competition.

 

7. Personal Information

By entering this competition, each participant consents to the use of their personal information, consisting of their name, company, title, and company details, for the purposes of this competition as contemplated in these terms and conditions. Personal information may be used by Space Tech Expo USA for the purpose of promoting future competitions of this nature. Space Tech Expo USA may retain personal information for the purpose of following up with participants for potential future business development initiatives independent of this competition but will not otherwise disclose such personal information.

 

8. Participant Expenses

All expenses incurred by participants in any part of this competition, including, but not limited to, travel expenses to participate in the live competition on stage at Space Tech Expo USA, remain the responsibility of the participants.

 

9. Video Rights and Release

The rights of all video submissions are exempt from the applicant. Videos may be edited, copied, exhibited, published, or distributed and all rights are waived to inspect or approve the finished product wherein should the likeness appear. Additionally, all rights to royalties or other compensation arising or related to the use of all videos submitted are exempt by the applicant. This material may be used in diverse educational settings within an unrestricted geographic area.

 

10. Final Decisions

Submission of an application in no way guarantees selection to proceed.  Space Tech Expo USA, its partners, and judges reserve the right to judge and evaluate the submissions and Applications, in its sole discretion.  Space Tech Expo USA further reserves the right to make all final decisions regarding all aspects of this competition.

 

11. Event Cancelation

Space Tech Expo USA reserves the right to cancel the event at any time, at its sole discretion.
